Cristiano Ronaldo returns to the hunt the golden shoes
After scoring a hat-trick in the Juve match against Cagliari 4-0 in the last 18 round, Cristiano Ronaldo quickly returned to the hunt for the Serie A Golden Shoe when only 6 points behind Lazio’s Ciro Immobile.
Although always maintaining a very impressive scoring style, the Golden Boot title seems to want to escape him for the past 5 years. Specifically, in those 5 years, he scored 120 goals but pitying at the Golden Shoe fell into the hands of other players.
The last time Ronaldo won the Golden Shoes was in the 2014-2015 season, with 48 goals in 35 La Liga matches for Real Madrid. Since then, in Spain, he has always stood behind two other Barcelona strikers Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi. Like the 2015-2016 season, despite scoring 35 goals, Ronaldo is still 5 points behind Suarez in 35 games.
And last season in Juventus’s black and white striped shirt, Ronaldo was 5 goals less than the top scorer Fabio Quagliarella (26 goals for Sampdoria). It was an unsuccessful achievement for Ronaldo – his least scoring season since his last year at Manchester United 10 years ago.
This season, Ronaldo scored an average of nearly 1 goal per game, especially thanks to a hat-trick on Monday. His current achievement of 13 goals in 15 matches helps him return to the title race of Serie A top scorer with 3rd place, 1 point behind Romelu Lukaku of Inter and especially Ciro Immobile of Lazio 6 goals.
Lukaku is having 14 goals and playing very successfully in his first season in Inter Milan. This team has the same 45 points with the top team Juventus and only less goal difference-defeat. Lukaku and Ronaldo now compete directly for 2nd in the scorer race. Because, the leading position in the list of top scorers now belongs to 29-year-old striker Ciro Immobile of Lazio with 19 goals in 17 matches. Two seasons ago, Immobile scored 41 goals – 29 matches in Serie A.
In fact in Italy, all attention is directed to the championship competition between Juventus and Inter and the Golden Shoe competition between Ronaldo and Lukaku. Recently, these two strikers appeared in the newspapers after they scored a total of 5 goals.
If Cristiano Ronaldo wants to achieve a feat he has not had in the past 5 years, he will have to cope with a tight schedule and avoid the risk of injury. His 13 goals in 1,315 minutes this season is clearly higher than Lukaku’s performance. With the goal of winning the double (Serie A and Champions League), maybe Sarri of Juve will have to use Ronaldo thoroughly. In other words, the goal of the team will be the motivation to help Ronaldo towards the individual and collective title.
